Taunya Melvin brings to SMG over 20 years of property manager experience.  She began her career with Grady Management as the Assistant Manager of 720 units at McLean Gardens Condominium in 1983. After two years she was promoted to On-Site Manager and  managed  338 units  at Huntley Square Condominium, in Temple Hills, MD. Because of her excellent service and work ethics, Taunya was promoted again and moved to The Simmons Management Group, Inc. as their first portfolio manager in 1991.  Her client retention was 100%. 

She furthered her career by working for several other organizations such as the Maya Angelou Charter School under the umbrella of the See Forever Foundation and Sasha Bruce Youthwork, Inc. where she served as the Director of Operations (another industry name for property management). In this capacity she was the head of the Facilities Management Department, the Finance Department, the Human Resources Department and the IT Department where she still kept up with her property management skills in making sure that all of the organization’s facilities were kept to high standards and the organization’s finances were kept under control.

Mrs. Melvin left SMG in 1995 to pursue her degree in psychology and received her undergraduate degree in1999 from Howard University. She then worked in the finance center for Oppenheimer & Co where she served through 2004. During this same time Taunya enrolled in the Graduate program at Trinity University in Washington, DC. She received her Master’s Degree in Organizational Management with a GPA of 3.97 in 2004.

She recently returned to The Simmons Management Group, Inc. in June 2011 to serve as it’s President.

Mrs. Melvin is very honored to serve as Simmons Management’s President and it is her goal to take the organization to the next level.
